Henry County Sheriff's Office Child Photo ID Program
The Child Photo I.D. Program was begun in 1988
by Sheriff Gib Cady and provides identification cards for children that
are similar to an adult's drivers license. These identification cards include
a picture, name, date of birth, description of features, nicknames, two
thumb prints, telephone numbers and emergency contact information. The
cards are laminated for protection and given to the child to carry with
them.
Each year Sheriff Cady contacts all the public
and parochial schools in Henry County to set up dates to go into the schools
and provide each child with an I.D. Once a questionnaire is completed,
the child gets their picture and thumb prints taken and all the information
is combined onto the actual photo ID card. The cost is $1.00 per I.D. and
any number may be purchased.
This system of identification has proven to be
very effective and has been used several times in Henry County when a child
has become ill or lost. It is recommended that the I.D.'s be done every
year, due to the child's growth and changes in appearance. It is also recommended
that parents obtain at least two additional photo I.D.'s for each child.
One should be kept by the parents, the other for grandparents, baby-sitter,
or anyone responsible for the care of the child.
This is an all-out volunteer program by Sheriff
Cady to protect and safeguard our children. The Sheriff has taken the program
to various stores throughout Henry County as well as to many community
events, and in 1995 began to offer senior citizens a Photo I.D. as well.
This program is effective and the cost is such a small price to pay for
the added protection it offers for our children. Unfortunately, children
do wander away and accidents happen every day, so play it safe and attend
the Child's Photo I.D. Program when it comes to your area.
Photo ID sessions are held on a regular basis
across the county. Contact our Office for further information at (309)
