Your township assessor is elected to the position every 4 years. They are not employees of the Chief County Assessment Officer (CCAO); however, the CCAO is required by law to meet with the township assessors annually to give them guidelines to follow. This is done so that all taxpayers in the county are being assessed in the same manner. Your township assessor is there to serve you as the CCAO is. Whenever you have a question do not hesitate to call your assessor. Most assessors in Henry County work at their home. Some have an office at the township building. Above is a list of the assessor's in Henry County.

The township assessor is the beginning of the entire real estate taxation process. It is a very important job. The taxpayer is best served when the township assessor does his/her job well. They are required by Illinois State Statutes to view all properties every four years but a good assessor can and will make necessary changes every year. They assess as of January 1 each year. They also list any new construction and note any properties that are demolished each year. New construction and demolitions are pro-rated so the assessor must keep an eye on things all year long. They also assist the assessment office in adding and removing exemptions as needed.

When the taxpayer or the assessment office request it, the assessor will go to the property and review it. Please contact your assessor or the county assessment office whenever you have a question about your property.
