Board of Review

Your Henry County Board of Review Members are:

bullet James Eccher, Chairman
bullet Tammy Swanson Dynes, Member
bullet Steve Carton, Member
bullet Lindi Kernan, Clerk

The Board of Review consists of three members appointed by the Henry County Board. They are responsible for reviewing assessments performed by the township assessor and Chief County Assessor. Assessment notices are mailed by the CCAO in the late fall or early winter. The values are also published in the local newspapers throughout the county. The taxpayer has 30 days from the date of publication to file an appeal on their assessment if they feel that it is incorrect. The Board of Review is responsible for hearing those appeals. The taxpayer must submit evidence to show that their assessment is incorrect. The BOR reviews the evidence and may set up a hearing. If sufficient evidence is submitted, a hearing may not be necessary. The hearings are kept somewhat informal so that the taxpayer feels comfortable meeting with them. After the hearing, a notice is sent to the taxpayer, which reflects the changes made. If the taxpayer still does not agree, they may file a formal appeal with the State of Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board within 30 days of the notice.

They also have the authority to assess any property that was missed in previous years. They act on exemptions and have the authority to equalize between townships as the CCAO does.

They sign the books over to the County Clerk upon completion of their work.
