In The News

Got milk?”  You may recognize the catch-phrase from the National Milk Board advertising campaign.  It also happens to be the title of the newest piece of art hanging in the Henry County Courthouse.  This watercolor painting was donated by artist Kathy Williams of Atkinson.  Kathy grew up on a dairy farm near Waterloo, Iowa.  Her interest in art began as a child and her largest piece of work to date is a 6 x 15’ mural of the family farm on her parents’ interior garage wall.  Kathy has been a Geneseo Art League member for 9 years and currently serves as the group’s treasurer.  The Art League, she says, has given her the opportunity to spend time developing her art while meeting and working with other artists.  She’s had little formal training but enjoys seeing and creating art for the joy it brings to her life and to others, and working in various art mediums.  She also enjoys visiting art museums for inspiration.

Over the past several years numerous forms of art have been donated to the Henry County Courthouse including two and three dimensional forms.  The 132 year old building has this art on the expansive walls of the main level where the high ceilings make it the perfect place for display.

The Geneseo Art League is a not for profit organization whose purpose is to encourage interest in art among members and the community at large and to provide an environment for creative activity, giving members an opportunity to receive instruction and training.    It has been aided in that endeavor by support from the Geneseo Foundation.  Art League works in conjunction with Henry County Tourism and the Geneseo Chamber of Commerce, and hosts their own annual Maple City Fine Arts Exhibit and the Christmas Tree Forest.  The league welcomes members of high school age and up.
