Spaying and Neutering

Why Should your Spay/Neuter your pet?

  • Spaying your female before their first cycle eliminates the the possibility of uterine or ovarian cancer and can greatly reduce the chances of breast cancer.
  • Neutering your male reduces the risk of prostate cancer and prostate disorders.
  • Spayed/Neutered pets live longer and healthier lives.

Spaying/Neutering is good for you too:

  • Spayed/neutered pets are better behaved.
  • Cats are less likely to spray and dogs are less likely to mark their territory.
  • Spaying a female eliminates their heat cycle which lasts 6-12 days twice per year in dogs and 6-7 days and three or more times per year in cats. An animal in heat can cry constantly, show nervous behavior, and attract unwanted males.
  • Neutered males are less likely to roam, run away or get in fights.
  • Unaltered animals often have more behavior and temperament issues and are more likely to bite.

Pet Overpopulation

It has been shown that one female dog or cat and her descendents can produce as many as 67,000 offspring in six years! In seven years that number jumps to as many as 420,000 offspring! Unfortunately many of these animals will die unwanted, abandoned, or just simply because they cannot survive the harsh life on the street.
